Hour Glass has been in the family my entire life, but in July 2019, she became mine. On July 28th, I set off for the boat’s new home in Rochester, NY with my mom, my sister, and my friend Charlie as crew. Sadly, Zoie couldn’t join me for the trip due to work constraints. After leaving the dock at 5 AM, we bid a final farewell to Hour Glass’s long time home of Stamford, CT. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leaving Stamford slowly behind at around 7 kts while we waited for enough daylight to get on plane and make better time<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

More daylight arrived shortly and we were well on our way<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Mom gets a turn at the helm while I grab some breakfast<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

About an hour into our trip we pass the lighthouse at Execution Rocks<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Shortly after that, we’re coming into NYC with me at the helm<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Several bridges later, the Hell Gate provides a nice view with the rising sun<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Followed by us making the turn into the Harlem River<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Where we get some nice views of the buildings in NYC<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
We continue to pass under bridge after bridge<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Until we reach the Spuyten Duyvil railroad bridge<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Where we wait patiently for the bridge to swing open<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Upon turning into the Hudson we’re greeted by the biggest traffic we’ve seen so far<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We pass under the new Tappan Zee Bridge<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Up to this point, we’d been making excellent time and had seen very little traffic, likely due to limited commercial traffic on a Sunday. However, a few minutes after passing under the Tappan Zee and almost exactly four hours into the trip, that excellent progress came to a sudden end as the port transmission stopped transmitting power. So we limped along for a bit until reaching Haverstraw, NY where we stopped to assess the problem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
