Delivery Trip Day 5

We left the dock in Phoenix right at 7 AM, as soon as lock O1 indicated they were ready for us. A quick ride down the lock and under a lift bridge got us on our way for the Oswego Canal transit.

Unfortunately pictures are a little bit sparse from this day. As we proceeded up the canal, we went through a half-hour of rain and noticed the wind starting to pick up. But within the protected confines of the canal, we pushed forward. 4 hours and 7 locks after we departed the dock in Phoenix, we emerged from the canal into Oswego Harbor.

With plenty of daylight remaining and only 3.5 more hours to travel, we stopped for fuel and took a look at the lake conditions. By this point, it was quite windy, straight out of the north. Lake Ontario looked a bit unpleasant as waves splashed over the harbor breakwalls. So we decided to tie up for a bit and see if the wind would die down, as running in 3 foot beam seas for several hours was something we could do without.

After lunch, conditions had not improved, so the decision was made to stay in Oswego overnight in hopes that the better weather predicted for Monday would arrive. Now it was just time to let my boss know I wouldn’t be back on time and would be taking an extra day off.
